In different times of our lives, the people around us either help us grow or unintentionally hold us back. When your soul feels out of alignment, it may be a sign to evaluate who’s in your proximity. Are they the people who resonate with where you are now and where you’re trying to go?

Take Eboni, for example. She’s a new mom. Overwhelmed by sleepless nights, endless diaper changes, and the emotional rollercoaster of early motherhood, she finds herself struggling. The friends she’s always had don’t quite get it—their lives are still filled with late-night dinners and spontaneous weekend plans. As much as she loves them, they can’t fully support the season of life she’s in.
Then, one day, Eboni stumbles into a local mommy-and-me yoga class. There, she meets other moms who understand her struggles, share tips, and remind her that she’s not alone. Slowly, she begins to feel lighter. This new group doesn’t just offer practical advice; they see her. They validate her experience and show her how to find joy and connection in this new chapter of life.

Now compare Eboni's story to Maria, a woman who’s starting her first business. She’s ambitious and full of ideas, but her friends and family don’t understand her entrepreneurial spirit. Instead of support, she’s met with skepticism—comments like, “Are you sure this will work?” or “Why don’t you stick to something safe?” start to chip away at her confidence.
Feeling stuck, Maria decides to attend a local networking event for entrepreneurs. She’s nervous at first, but as she talks to other women who’ve taken similar risks, her perspective shifts. She hears their success stories, learns strategies to overcome challenges, and finds herself inspired. This group of intentional, driven individuals becomes her support system. They hold her accountable, cheer her on, and remind her that she’s capable of building something incredible.

I’ve been in Eboni's shoes as a mom seeking understanding and Maria’s shoes as an entrepreneur seeking alignment. But at the beginning of 2025, I decided to be intentional about this new season of life. I attended the Envision Me Conference—a gathering that completely shifted my perspective. My spirit led me to a group of women who curated an experience that edified my soul and spoke to my season.
In this season, I’m allowing God to lead me, in my family, my business, and my purpose. At the conference, I found a tribe of women who align with my vision, my values, and my journey. They empowered me, prayed with me, and reminded me of the power of walking in alignment with faith and purpose.

The Mental Health Connection
The people we surround ourselves with don’t just impact our goals—they deeply affect our mental health. Here’s how:
Emotional Support and Validation: Relationships with aligned people can reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, helping you feel seen, understood, and supported. Eboni found relief from her overwhelm when she connected with other moms who got it, reminding her she wasn’t alone.
Resilience Building: Proximity to the right people strengthens your ability to bounce back during hard times. Like Maria, finding a community of like-minded individuals can bolster your confidence and reduce stress when pursuing challenging goals.
Boundary Reinforcement: Evaluating your circle helps protect your mental health by creating space for people who energize you and stepping back from those who drain you. When your relationships align with your values, you naturally set healthier emotional and relational boundaries.
Peace and Growth: The right connections can nurture a sense of inner peace, inspiring you to grow emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. When you align with people who encourage you to rest, recharge, and reflect, your overall mental well-being thrives.
When your relationships align with your season of life, your mental health benefits in ways that extend beyond the present. Intentional, nurturing connections become a foundation for long-term emotional well-being.
The Lesson? Your soul craves alignment. And in different seasons of life, that alignment often comes from different people. If you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or out of place, it might be time to evaluate your circle. Ask yourself:
Are the people around me helping me grow or holding me back?
Do they understand and support the season I’m in?
Am I intentionally seeking connections that align with my goals, values, and energy?
It’s not about abandoning old relationships, it’s about intentionally curating your proximity to match where your soul is now. Because when you find the right people for the right season, you’ll feel empowered, supported, and, most importantly, aligned.
Reflection Question:How do the people in your circle impact your mental health? Are your connections filling your emotional cup or draining it?
Call to Action for 2025:This year, prioritize relationships that protect and enhance your mental health. Seek aligned, intentional connections that bring peace, growth, and resilience into your life. Whether it’s attending a conference, joining a group, or simply reaching out to someone who inspires you—take the step. Don’t wait for alignment to find you; create it by inviting the right people into your life. Trust God’s plan, and know that He will guide you toward those who nurture your soul.
