Stepping Out on Faith: Overcoming the Fear to Pursue Your Purpose

Stepping out on faith is one of the most terrifying and exhilarating things you can do. It often feels overwhelming, impossible, or even downright crazy. But what if the fear you feel is simply the gateway to something greater? What if stepping out on faith is the only way to truly step into your purpose?
I’ve wrestled with those same questions myself. But sometimes, all it takes is encountering someone who embodies what it means to step out on faith to remind you of what’s possible. That someone, for me, was Chanae Lavette.

I met Chanae last year during a Mother’s Day event called Bloom Where You’re Planted. She was one of the speakers, and her topic was the importance of self-care and motherhood as an accomplished, ambitious woman. As I sat in the audience, something about her caught my attention. The way she told her story made me lean in. Her presence, her vulnerability, and the way she spoke with both power and grace—it all felt deeply authentic.
Her words lingered with me long after the event ended. I began following her on social media, drawn by her message of faith, wellness, and purpose. Little did I know that just eight months later, her work would help restore me.
A Space to Just Breathe: The Envision Me Conference
I attended the Envision Me Conference, a transformative event curated by Chanae through her organization, Rom8 Wellness. It wasn’t just another conference—it was an experience. From the moment I arrived, I could feel the intention and love poured into every detail.
One of the things I personally loved was Chanae’s incredible attention to detail. I don’t know how she did it, but she made sure that every single person who attended came with the same energy. People were open, positive, and fully engaged. She created a safe space where everyone felt like they could finally breathe.
There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. We laughed together, cried together, and uplifted one another. The space felt nothing short of magical. It had to be God’s work. From her staff—no, her team, her girls, her trusted advisors—it was clear that this wasn’t just a “staff-boss” relationship. They, too, were kindred spirits embodying the same love and warmth that radiates from Chanae herself.
I arrived early on the first day because I didn’t know anyone, but by the time I left, I had connected with almost everyone in the room. I’m not sure if that was her intention, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
In a moment of vulnerability, Chanae even shared the story of her first ticket sale. She gave recognition to her friend, Tee—the first person to purchase a ticket, and not just any ticket—a VIP ticket. Chanae admitted that seeing that purchase brought her a sense of relief she hadn’t realized she needed. It wasn’t just a ticket; it was a sign from God that everything was going to be okay. That single act of support became the confirmation she needed to keep going.

When Faith and Mental Health Intersect
Chanae’s story—and the space she’s created through Rom8 Wellness—is a powerful reminder of what can happen when we choose to step out on faith. But let’s be honest: making that choice isn’t easy. Often, the barriers aren’t just external challenges—they’re internal battles with our own thoughts and beliefs.
Cognitive Distortions That Hold Us Back
Cognitive distortions—unhelpful patterns of thinking—can be some of the biggest obstacles to stepping into your purpose. Here are a few that might sound familiar:
All-or-Nothing Thinking“If I don’t succeed immediately, I’ve failed.”This mindset can paralyze you before you even begin. But progress is built on small, imperfect steps, not instant perfection.
Catastrophizing“If this doesn’t work, everything will fall apart.”Fear of the worst-case scenario can keep you stuck in inaction. But most of the time, these fears are exaggerated and unlikely.
Imposter Syndrome“I’m not good enough to do this.”This distortion convinces you that you’re unqualified, even when you have the skills, experience, and passion to succeed.
Overgeneralization“I’ve failed before, so I’ll fail again.”Past mistakes don’t define your future. Growth comes from trying, learning, and trying again.
Faith in Action
Chanae Lavette is a living example of what it means to step out on faith. She founded Rom8 Wellness as a community inspired by God and curated with intention. Through events like the Envision Me Conference, she’s created spaces where individuals can heal, grow, and flourish. Her attention to detail, her authenticity, and her ability to create a space where people feel seen and supported are truly gifts.
I’ve attended so many conferences and been invited to countless communities, but the Envision Me Conference was different. During the event, Chanae shared that her goal was to make "the whole woman whole." And honestly, it felt like she had already started doing just that.
I can’t guarantee what the ROM8 community will do for you, but I do know one thing—I’ll be there. This community has changed my life in ways I never expected, and I believe it has the potential to do the same for you.

Reflection Question
What’s one fear or thought that’s been holding you back from stepping into your purpose, and how can you challenge or reframe it today?
You’re not alone on this journey. Like Chanae, you have the power to create something beautiful by stepping out on faith. The path may not be easy, but it will be worth it. Trust the process, lean into your purpose, and know that you’re not crazy—you’re courageous.
